PodNova released!
We are happy to inform you of the release of PodNova. A web based application which builds on RSS and OPML.
PodNova is an initiative from Active8. The company which was at the birth of iSpider (now known as iPodder lemon). We have tried to solve the following problems.
One click subscription:
PodNova offers a free account to every visitor on the fly, it's up to the user to change this to a (also free) non-anonymous account. The advantage of such an account is that you can access it from more then one machine/client. If a podcaster adds the PodNova chicklet (http://www.podnova.com/index_for_podcasters.srf) on his site, a visitor can click it and he will be subscribed and ready to listen via the in-page flash player on his page. Or download his content via an iPodder application.
Synchronization of multiple iPodder clients
If you subscribe to a podcast via the site all your clients are automatically synchronized. When you are using more then one device to listen and retrieve your podcast you can run into the problem where the subscriptions are not in sync. We offer a solution in providing two personal web services. The first one offers you an aggregated view of all your subscriptions. This is a normal rss-feed which all podcatching clients can read. We think this can be handy for the small devices like phones and pda's. The second service is a dynamic opml feed with your current subscriptions. A podcatching client should check this feed before downloading. We offer a slightly modified version of iPodder lemon to experience this today. The next release of iPodder lemon will also support this, i talked about it with the group and i am currently coding it in. In this way subscription management is done via the website and the clients are responsible for downloading (normal and torrent), clean-up and player-management.
More reliable rating system
We offer a Top 40 based on the number of subscribers per feed. Only the accounts which are opted-in by a user are counted. The guest accounts are not counted; this is open for debate we think.
Faster and more detailed iPodder directory
Our directory is based on the work of all the volunteers of the iPodder.org directory. We spider this directory (and others) and maintain a fast database driven copy of it. We also provide a link to the maintainer of the directory to make it clear who is responsible for this directory and who to contact in case of a submission.
