New release PodNova Desktop Client 2.3.1
First of all I'd like to thank the people who have commented or mailed us with suggestions for improvement on the site and the Desktop Client. In the last weeks we've fixed some bugs and we've added new functionality. As a result we're happy to announce that we're releasing a new version of the PodNova Desktop Client today.

Major change in this version is that we've added an extra button "Play". This allows easier playback of files which you have downloaded already. You could use the build in Flash player, but you can also launch your (locally installed) preferred application with just one click.

Go to the download page to get PodNova Desktop Client 2.3.1.

play button doesnt do anything for me? i still miss the original client and all its functionality. all this client seems to do is watse yours and my bandwidth by indiscriminately downloading all podcasts.

ohhh cool the old client works now.

I really wanted this client to work so I can have all my machines in sync with one set of subscriptions but there are too many issues in the way.

1. I hate to say this but I need to know what has downloaded.

2. It would be nice to have a setting like Juice that auto deletes old (duration of time set by you) podcasts. This saves tons of time and space.

3. Why does the desktop client d/l a photo for each show? Is there a way to shut it off?

4. Being able to go back (mentioned by many others - credit to all of them) and catch up on a show.

5. Being able to set the player (ex. Winamp) to play your podcasts thru the client. Or better yet let us pick the player. I know alot of people like Fubar2000 (sp?).

I will continue to use the online client especially given it's face life while on the run, and will look forward to a more robust desktop client in the near future.

p.s. Where can I d/l the original client? Is it still available?

Thx

@ Mark:
First of all thanks for taking the time to address the issues you experience.

ad.1: if you're using the latest version (2.3.1) there is a 'Play' button which launches your browser and gives you a view on what is downloaded and available on your hard disk.

ad.2: This too is already available in the current version. Go to 'Settings', 'System'. There is a checkbox 'Enable cleanup for public channels' where you then can specify the number of enclosures you would like to keep.

ad.3: The photo is the album art used on the local site which is launched after you hit the 'Play' button.

ad.4: Is currently not available, but we do have it on the list for future improvement.

ad.5: After hitting the 'Play' button PodNova Local is started in a browser. From there you can launch the downloaded files to be played with your default application for files of that filetype. So if you usually run mp3's with Winamp, then Winamp will be started to play the file.

Seems to me that 4 out of 5 issues are already available :)
Please let me know if you find any other things which are not working for you.
Thanks again!

The Client keeps leaving .partial appended to the filename, in windows and linux. I usualy run the client right before I go to work and unmount my device right after its done downloading. It would be nicer if it didnt say it was done downloading untill all filenames were switched back to the original. most of the time I can strip them off manually and the full show is there.

two issues I had was 1. my system wouldn't shutdown with the client running. and 2. it looks like it deleted a some folders i had in the same directory.

I've been having problems with the new client.
1. There are some files that it just keeps on downloading. It will completely download a file, then next time it checks for new podcasts the same file appears with a .partial on the end. I've even found that each time it checks the .partial file grows larger and larger (I found one that was several times the size of the original podcast).
2. The client also seems to skip some of the files from daily podcasts, if I don't check for updates every day.
So I've moved to using the Juice client.
I like the look of the new client & web site but miss the ability to skip some individual files or download one that I missed
